I have a potential customer with a 4" scratch on his DS window. I don't know what caused it, but it's pretty deep... easily felt with pad of my finger (not the nail).
Can this be repaired without distorting the glass?
How much would some of you charge?
Any info or instruction will be greatly appreciated.

| Are you talking about the drivers side door or the drivers side of the w/s? If when dragging your fingernail across the scratch your nail hangs up or gets stuck in the scratch you have a deep scratch and you will have to really work to get that out. Realistically, it wont fully come out unless you make it your retirement project. If your fingernail just clicks on the scratch. you will have much better succcess. 4" deep scratch on side window of door Min $90 and max $110. Remember the side glass is probably tempered glass it is harder glass. If the scratch is really deep I might reccomend having Mary whip up some gray tinted pit filler and you could fill, cure and pit polish to give a much better appearance than the ugly scratch. I would charge $75 to $85 for that.

Thank you very much for the advice!
The scratch is on the driver-side door. It is a very deep scratch. So far I've only worked scratches on tempered glass, so I know that it will be difficult.
I like your idea about the pit filler... what would the process be? Buff it down a bit and then fill? Who's Mary and how does she color the pit filler? Does gray pit filler have other applications?

| We do windshield repair also and use Glas-Weld equipment and resins exclusively. Call Glas-Weld and ask for Mary. Tell her Mike from Manalapan, nj referred you from the gw forum. She'll know who i am. The gray tinted pit filler will hide the sparkle of the scratch fairly well. If you dont do w/s repair you might consider it. glas weld has a great w/s repair system. I've been using it since december 1993. To repair the scratch you spoke of you will need the ultraviolet light , pit polish, film tabs and a single edge razor. Call Mary and speak with her about it. Also for scratch removal i'm sure you know to speak with Don. Important !!! Do not try to polish the scratch first !!!! The pit filler might not be able to adhere to the polished surface. Once your done, from outside the vehicle you might see a faint line. From inside the vehicle you will probably see a faint line. It will look 100 times better and will be smooth with the glass. I've done this before on w/s's for dealers and private customers. They all were happy. P. S. Fill Out Your Profile !!!

I have the glass repair system, and use it every chance I get. I'm a MARS Owner/Operator and added the scratch repair system to my business due to a customer request. Don has helped me more than he knows.
I'll contact Mary. Anything that I can add to solve more problems for customers, I'll do it. That's what makes my business go.
Again, thank you very much for the advice.
